Wow, had a great time at Seattle Sherlock, and am in con-recovery mode. Also, since everybody and her cat is on Tumblr nowadays (and I missed some pre-con communications by not having an account), I finally decided to bite the bullet and start Tumbling. Find me at:

Okay, back to resting up; this is the last traveling event on the calendar till RadCon next Feb., so I'm hoping the fic-writing time will finally happen now. W00t! TT y'all later!

Hey, all! Just a quick note to let everyone know I haven't abandoned LJ for good -- not even close! I just had a whole lot of Life to deal with the last few months, and simply did not have time to keep up with everything online at the same time. All's well, though.

There is, of course, No Way I'm going to be able to catch up on everything from the time I was absent. Apologies in advance for any clulessness that might result.

I expect to be around regularly soon, after I can catch up on the latest DW eps so I'm not having to shade my eyes for spoilers everywhere I go. ;) (Actually, you guys are great about marking such posts, but I'd like to be up to speed on what everyone is talking about.) With any luck, writing will resume shortly afterwards. :)

Hope y'all had a great summer!

For those who didn't see it on the LJ holmsean-news post, there's a call for Sherlock Holmes fic, with a shot at getting published!

"Want to see your own Sherlock Holmes story in print?"

Thought the peanut gallery'd like to know about that. ;)

"Silence Gun"

Egad. Someone's finally come up with a weapon that could do in the Doctor -- or at least slow him down a little. :/

(Well, not really -- he doesn't have a human brain, so I'm sure he'd be immune. Yay! Dunno about the rest of us, though . . .)

. . . But I should have time to get back to cyberspace this week, finally. Yey.

As I'm sure you've all guessed, I've been watching and enjoying the new Sherlock eps; probably more on that later. ;) In the meantime, the good news is there will be a third season, and the Moftiss was just teasing (bless) when they hinted against that possibility.

A nice discussion of Holmes fandom (and fan reactions to the Reichenbach tales both old and new) here: The Affair of the Black Armbands.

And, finally, because it cracked me up, a helpful gardening video courtesy of the Utah State University extension office:

OMG! According to this article, not only will Ben Cumberbatch be in the new Abrams Trek movie, but so will Noel Clarke!

"Benedict Cumberbatch Joins J.J. Abrams' 'Star Trek 2' in Villain Role"

TOS, Doctor Who and Sherlock all colliding together? Please, please, please! I hope my fangirl heart can take it, if true.

If Cumberbatch doesn't play a Vulcan or a Romulan, there is no justice in this world. I mean, think of the cheekbones . . .!

(Thx to [livejournal.com profile] aclarar for the tip-off.)

So a formal statement has been issued RE: the temporary listing of Conan T. Barbarian as Humanities faculty at Trinity College in Dublin.

Here's hoping the perps escape discovery, or at least any serious punishment. Yes, messing with an official website is bad, but this was basically harmless, and such a *great* joke!

Oh, look. Peter Jackson is adding girl!Legolas to The Hobbit.

Lucky for PJ that Martin Freeman will be on the screen pretty much the whole time and providing me with a welcome distraction from whatever will be happening to the original plot.

(Thx to [livejournal.com profile] lamiel_writes for the link.)

This made me laugh so hard I cried. Naturally, I had to share it.

"Man told not to wear bunny suit in public."

And no, I'm not anti-furry or anything. It's just the utterly *deadpan* way the thing is written that kills me.

Benedict Cumberbatch joins "The Hobbit"

*begins fangirl chant, "VOICE OF SMAUG! VOICE OF SMAUG! C'mon, PTB, VOICE OF SMAUG!!!"*

Also, 'The Tree of Life' wins Cannes Palme d'Or

Yep, right on track to make this post's satricial "Oscar, Oscar" poster (scroll down to find it) into reality . . .

Also, congrats to Sherlock and Martin Freeman! Blogtor Who vies us a handy DW/SJS/Sherlock BAFTA vid here.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] neadods for the links! :)

FWIW, I hope the newlyweds have a long and happy life together, but I'm not terribly into the wedding hype in and of itself.

These 'shops, however, which have been making the rounds, are wonderful:

Oh, yeah, first off, even though I'm polishing up my Dreamwidth and thinking heavily about starting to crosspost on a regular basis, I'm not personally looking at giving up LJ in any way, shape or form. This still feels like home to me, and I intend to stay here till/if/when my ass actually gets evicted. I mean, permanent paid account, hello!

Next up, some more info on What's Up, from the BBC (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] captain91) and an interesting post (ironically on Dreamwidth) from one of LJ's founders (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jjpor).

While this may be *my* place to geek out, write and read (dodgy) fanfic, and generally go slumming for fun, ElJay is Srs Bzns elsewhere. Fascinating . . .

This is going around the f-list, so I thought I'd boost the signal; note that I have not done ANYTHING to verify this myself (though some of LJ's own update posts indicate that it's not terribly farfetched).

I’ve been wondering what’s up with all the DDoS attacks LJ has been receiving lately. Signal boosting [info]ingridmatthews:

Just in case anyone thinks LJ's downtime is just TPTB being incompetant, read this:

LiveJournal, Russia's blogging platform of choice, is sustaining biggest cyberattack attack in its history. Bloggers say the Kremlin wants to crack down on political discussion.

"LiveJournal, Russia’s most popular blogging platform, has been under a massive DDoS attack for the past few days. The attack has effectively wiped out Russia’s main refuge for unbridled political discussion, a hugely lively and extensive domain frequented by politicians, opposition activists and social commentators alike...

“The reason for attack is more than clear in this case — someone wants LiveJournal to disappear as a platform,” Ilya Dronov, development director at SUP, wrote in a post on his LiveJournal blog earlier this week. He said the hackers were hoping to push bloggers from LJ to social networks where “it's easier to fight individual users.”"

Via [livejournal.com profile] calliopes_pen and SFX, the title of Neil Gaiman's Doctor Who episode.

Well, that will be interesting. For the fandom-screaming, as well as the ep itself. :)

Still no word, as I type this. [livejournal.com profile] lindenharp has proposed an effort to fill [livejournal.com profile] honorh's profile with Help Japan gifts, which is a fine idea. [livejournal.com profile] wendymr is posting info updates here as she gets them.

This is also a good time to boost the signal on [livejournal.com profile] help_japan.

I don't quite trust myself ATM to make a fic offering (what with poor [livejournal.com profile] sahiya still waiting on the last chapter of her auction fic from way back), but I do have a couple things I can offer; I bought the makings of a pair of River Song earrings a while back, and the multi-color crystal "dangles" only came in packs of 4 -- leaving me with a spare set. I also have a book I picked up at Norwescon a couple years ago that's signed by both R. A. Salvatore AND his son Gino. Hopefully those will catch folks' eyes, and serve a good cause.

"Space shuttle Discovery lands, ends flying career."

*sigh!* Can't help getting misty-eyed and posting a link to one of my fave filk songs, in honor of all the shuttles. They had a good run.

"NASA scientist finds evidence of alien life"

Jury's still out, so far as I'm concerned, but the arguing should be as entertaining as the aftermath of Cold Fusion, regardless.
