. . . I like to think he'd come up with mixed drinks like these.

Pathology-inspired Cocktails, served at the St Bartholomew's Pathology Museum, of all places! How appropriate. Molly probably helped . . .

Yes, it's true -- while I've been off-LJ, I've gone over to the pony side of the Force, as it were. Since I don't participate in the fandom, I wouldn't say I'm a full-blown Brony by any means, but I enjoy the show and can see why it's developed an adult fandom. I also think it's worth reccing to anyone who hasn't given it a shot.

Nattering and a sample link, under the cut. )

Pic from MisCon this last weekend: the "Lore of Swords" panel, featuring George R. R. Martin and yours truly (also J. A. Pitts and Diana Pharaoh Francis). It was fun, if completely surreal . . .

I also got pics taken while sitting on the Iron Throne; will post when they're downloaded . . . It was a very Throne-y weekend.

Okay, just re-watched the American broadcast of "A Scandal in Belgravia," and yeah, not happy with the PBS cuts (dude the ashtray, the ashtray was character gold!), but even still less happy about the tweaks made to Irene Adler and her story. When the Victorian version is more feminist than the modern one, there's a problem, and no matter how entertaining the episode otherwise there's no way around that. Sorry. It's a personal failing.

Ranting under the cut. )

Damn, where did Jan. and the first half of Feb. go? I've been moving at a dead run to get ready for RadCon for the past two weeks, and it feels like no time whatsoever has passed. Eek!

If anyone on the f-list is planning on going, seeya there -- I've got a fairly full dance card, but I'm sure some hanging-out-together time could arranged.

If not, I'll see y'all sometime next week (after I come home to find my friends page at "skip=10,000" or some such, no doubt). Apologies in advance for anything I miss. Till then, have fun -- I'm sure I will! :)

So I was talking about music vids with a friend, and discussing ones we thought played cleverly with intercutting/time/etc., and and I went looking for the Mountain Goats' "Woke Up New" as a good example of such.

Lo and behold, upon finding a copy on Youtube, I noticed that in the comments it's a song in the process of being adopted as a post-"Reichenbach" anthem by Sherlock fandom -- rather to the annoyance of some other folks commenting.

Y'know what? It is perfect, so I'm posting a link to the vid and boosting the signal. G'wan, enjoy a great song and intricate vid, and add your voices to those saying "Sherlock fandom sent me"! ;)

OMG! According to this article, not only will Ben Cumberbatch be in the new Abrams Trek movie, but so will Noel Clarke!

"Benedict Cumberbatch Joins J.J. Abrams' 'Star Trek 2' in Villain Role"

TOS, Doctor Who and Sherlock all colliding together? Please, please, please! I hope my fangirl heart can take it, if true.

If Cumberbatch doesn't play a Vulcan or a Romulan, there is no justice in this world. I mean, think of the cheekbones . . .!

(Thx to [livejournal.com profile] aclarar for the tip-off.)

Just hopping on quickly to post this must-share link:

TT y'all L!

I thought the friends list would like these random gems of internet humor that have ended up downloaded to my computer at one time or another, so without further ado (or attributions -- I'm being a jerk about that this time, though I freely declare none of them are my work), here they are.

Oh, look. Peter Jackson is adding girl!Legolas to The Hobbit.

Lucky for PJ that Martin Freeman will be on the screen pretty much the whole time and providing me with a welcome distraction from whatever will be happening to the original plot.

(Thx to [livejournal.com profile] lamiel_writes for the link.)

SpoCon was fun this year; got good responses to the historical programming I was part of, and got to have a good time socializing with long-time convention-friends -- you know, the people you only see about every 6 months, but whom you've known for years (almost decades, in some cases). I have some misc. pics I intend to post, but I since believe my camera ended up going home with my carpool ride (unintentionally), those will have to wait till later. For now, [livejournal.com profile] countessaleska snapped two pics of me Saturday night, when all the parties were in full swing and I had a pretty good skinful going, and naturally she posted them straight to Facebook. (What else are friends for?) I figured I might as well post them here, too, for the record, since I am (sort of) in costume.

I suppose if these are the only drunken pics of me ever posted to Facebook, I'll be doing pretty good. )

Benedict Cumberbatch joins "The Hobbit"

*begins fangirl chant, "VOICE OF SMAUG! VOICE OF SMAUG! C'mon, PTB, VOICE OF SMAUG!!!"*

Also, 'The Tree of Life' wins Cannes Palme d'Or

Yep, right on track to make this post's satricial "Oscar, Oscar" poster (scroll down to find it) into reality . . .

Also, congrats to Sherlock and Martin Freeman! Blogtor Who vies us a handy DW/SJS/Sherlock BAFTA vid here.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] neadods for the links! :)

. . . talk about multitasking. ;)

The following commercial for the Washington State lottery has been making the rounds of history groups, with good reason: it's got both beautiful armor (seriously, I drool on my keyboard every time I watch this) AND a genuinely funny punchline. Thought it was worth posting here, and it will also let me see if vids posted to my Dreamwidth account will crosspost to LJ, even if the reverse isn't true.

FWIW, the gentlemen in the commercial are members of the Seattle Knights, who are excellent performers and great people in the bargain -- if you ever get a chance, see one of their shows. :)

ETA: the crosspost worked! Yay!

I didn't really get any pics on Sunday, since that was "OMG! We have to check out by noon, PACK!" day, but I have a few from Saturday.

Steampunk, DW and misc. costuming pics, under the cut. )

I feel a bit frivolous about posting all this after taking a look at the storm reports from the Southeast (and the news in general); crossing my fingers that everyone in LJ land from that area is doing OK.

Anyway, as mentioned, this last weekend at Norwescon was a very good time -- great guests (I got to hear both Jim Butcher and Patricia McKillip talk about writing, which was highly enjoyable; in fact, all of the panelists were entertaining and informative), good friends, and a good room party.

Onwards to the pics! )

Gonna be at Norwescon from tomorrow through Sunday, hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] aibhinn, [livejournal.com profile] canaana, [livejournal.com profile] nightrider101 and [livejournal.com profile] souleswanderer. It's gonna be awesome. We'll be hosting our usual Doctor Who themed room party, The Geek-Out of Rassilon, on Friday night from 9-11pm, so feel free to stop by if you happen to be on-site!
